Fuel Pumps

Aero Engine Controls has more than 70 years of service experience in providing high-reliability fuel pumps. Our pumps  are used in every market sector, from the original Whittle engine to the latest EuroJet EJ200, Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 and BR725 engines.

Today's designs incorporate our unique DRIVElinxTM and FLOWlinxTM technologies to reduce heat reduction at critical points by more than 40%, without adding additional weight to the pumping unit.

The low pressure inlet pump feeds the high pressure second stage pump which feeds the main engine burn flow and engine actuator systems. Major benefits include:

  • A reduced part count which lowers overall manufacturing and overhaul cost
  • Cartridge type design which minimizes package size and weight
  • Proven technology designed to handle extreme environments, severe fuel inlet conditions and worldwide harsh fuel (low lubricity) service

The single-stage high-pressure gear pumps have world-leading volumetric efficiency. This provides engine relight capability of below 4% shaft speed. Our latest generation gear pump has 60% fewer parts than previous generations, leading to low weight and high reliability.

Our two-stage fuel pump consists of a low-pressure side-channel boost stage and a high-pressure positive-displacement gear stage. The pump is mounted on and driven by the engine gear box. Its rugged cast housing provides the structural integrity required by the jet-engine environment and also provides a mounting point for the fuel control. Key features are listed below.

  • Reduced part count lowers overall manufacturing and overhaul cost.
  • Suction-boost stage provides dry lift for starting, as well as sufficient fuel pressure to charge the downstream gear stage.
  • Proven technology designed to handle extreme environments, severe fuel inlet conditions and worldwide harsh fuel (low lubricity) service.

This pump is supplied as part of the complete engine control system for the Rolls-Royce Trent 1000 engine powering the Boeing 787. Aero Engine Controls' FLOWlinxTM system twin-stage gear pumps offer excellent thermal rejection properties by switching in and out of a secondary stage for high power conditions. The unique DRIVElinxTM design within the pumping unit keeps part-count, installation and weight to a minimum, while at the same time maximizing reliability.
